Until recently, Tupper Lake Catholics were served by two parishes and two worship sites: St. Alphonsus (1890) and Holy Name of Jesus (1904), each served by a resident pastor. With the decline in numbers of priests and loss of general population, the need for separate pastors and staffs has caused a restructuring. With the closure of the Holy Ghost Academy, in 2001, a fairly modern building consisting of ten classrooms and offices for school uses now serve the combined St. Alphonsus-Holy Name of Jesus Parish for administration and religious education. The community is presently served by a pastor and two deacons.
Tupper Lake has a proud history of Catholic practice. Over the years there have been six priestly vocations, three deacons and twenty five professed religious sisters. An active religious education program is housed at Holy Ghost Academy Parish Center enrolling a large number of students in grades kindergarten to grade ten.
